THE KNOWING

NIGHT TERRORS

i'm still swayze crayze. we watched a little Point Break last night, in honor of the man.

summer has totally wound down around here. we had a couple days of rain and suddenly everyone is indoors. i'm excited for fall this year because of cross season. i missed the first two races because i don't have my shit together yet, but i'm hungry. did a little training clinic last night and i think i'm ready. i'm gonna be the only guy out in cut-off jeans, so i've already got something to prove.

i've been working on the next issue of nosebleeds recently. actually, the next two issues if conlan will help me with my idea for 5. plus i gotta get to portland and steal some more free printing. who's got printing credit for me?

Loose Ends
Gettin ready for the big move, shit's gettin a bit complicated though, as usual. My stepdad was plannin on making the trip with me, but that's up in the air as we just found out my grandma has cancer. She's a tough lady and I'm sure she'll get through it, but still a scare for the fam. Anyway, I will still be in Vancouver, one way or another, for the start of October. Hopefully I'll still be able to make the trip via car, but if need be I'm a-flyin, sweating the whole time over my poor poor bicycles, and I guess my cat too...

Fingers crossed it doesn't come to that. Looking forward to taking a fucking break from working, holy shit. I'm getting hella burned out hustlin' dollars out here in the rotten apple, of course I have nothing really to complain about but I must say I do look forward to each and every day off. Building up a good base riding my road bike and my new Chris King wheels, breaking in those loud ass ratchets is pretty fun, they're a burly ass wheelset that climbs a bit better than the EC90 tubulars I have on there for goin' fast.

Anyway, I'm looking forward to seeing some of you soon. If y'all Vancouverites need anything bike related that you can't swoop through Luke up there holler at me and I'll see what I can do. T-minus 2 weeks(ish) for my return to the 604.

Check this dope image out, via nyc fixed...

It's a malaysian race from 2006...

And also - I recently checked out Miyazaki's "Nasu" - shit's a dope little short film centered around the Vuelta de Espana, Miyazaki style. Super fun, check it out, it's available on the interwebs.

Until next time -

Listen Up
My buddy Nick and I will be reviving his Tuesday morning radio show on the local community radio here in Burlington. So technically I guess I'm guest DJing, even though I believe the playlist might be rather heavily my doing because I'm pushy like that. I'll be throwing down some of the BG library, including a full play of Typhoon's 'Typhoon', as it is one of my recent favorite complete albums and 44 minutes will give us enough time to go get coffee.

You can get the show streaming over here http://www.theradiator.org/drupal/ . It'll be 9-11 on tuesday morning, east coast time. In the meanwhile go check out Nick's site called angioplasty media. He does a lot of show booking for indie artists who want to play in Burlington. He's got a bead on some pretty interesting shit.

In other news, VT is nice. If I'm not too hung over tomorrow I might get over to this convention for people who dress up their dogs in funny outfits to lat the shutter fly. Fo reals. Hangover is likely though.

I like full circles and such
So after getting my Thiatoo, crashing a scooter, and getting kicked in teh head a few times I'm ready to go home for a second. It's been a long journey, 4.5 months now that I think of it, but not too long. I have this strange sense that world travel is like time/space travel, where you get back and everyone is way older, or the same age, younger, or non existent depending on which school of time travel you adhere to Time Cop, BTTF, Enders Game, Lion Witch Wardrobe, Event Horizion etc. It's not though. I begrudgingly suspect everyone has aged according to the 'Real Time Passed:Age gained' ratio of 1:1. If only my world was the sci fi novel of which I hope to one day be a part.

So, I was over perusing the High Scores and Records web spot today and saw the praise of a band named "Total Bros." This tickled me to no end, as I was present for nearly every rehearsal they ever had, pre-public performances. When I was living in P-town, my super awesome roommate Wiley would disappear to the basement with his friend Ethan? and all of a sudden totally fucking awesome guitar drum thrash would shake the floors and rafters of the house. The first few times I thought someone was just playing their stereo really loudly in the basement, but eventually I went to investigate and lo and behold, Total Bros. Wiley is an amazing study in quiet person begets insane noise. he slays the drums, among other things, but is about the mellowist, most soft spoken, and truly nice dudes I've ever met. If you get a chance to talk to him, do it. He has a really awesome zine collection among other things. I'm really glad to see people I respect working with other people I respect. it gives me a major respect boner. Also makes me really glad I landed where I did in portland, and makes me happy that even though I never found a job that paid money and had to leave, I still got to be a part of some awesome shit, if even for a second. Also Total bros is one of those bands that the first time a riff drifted from my basement, I was like, "Goddamn, that's awesome, whoever that is is gonna be everybody's favorite real soon." If there's not a Dj at a public accesss radio station in Houston playing Portland's hip shit, it might have to get done.

Also I might be able to trade my old camera for a pickup truck in Texas, which will be really good for my beat novelist/ struggling artist street cred. Chevy S-10!! better Ax somebody.

I'll catch you all on the stateside.

For your viewing enjoyment a video staring the aptly named Frank and my hairy right nipple in thier debut appearance as the comedic duo of the century in a film entitled "+5 Protection" Sorry about the camera work, the operator was beign repeatedly stabbed in the ribs by a needle. It's a new camera technique we're developing tentatively named 'Uncomfortable Tripod.'

devin makes wacky noises

i read an article in the new york times magazine about a facebook/twitter/flickr backlash that was all about how constantly chronicling what you do kills the moment, or one's ability to live "in the moment". i guess i just think that's totally bogus.
